For our four-legged friend it is very important the nutrition issue, it is known that the cat’s immune system starts from its stomach and that taking care of its diet means taking care of a fundamental aspect of its life.
The question we usually ask ourselves is: better dry of wet food?
Let’s try to know them better to evaluate the different aspects of each.
The dry food is more commonly known as “croquette”: It’s a mix of ingredients like meat, fish, and vegetables that are blended and deprived of water. This way croquettes conserve for a longer period and don’t have a strong smell, they also represent the ideal food not to cause dental plaque and tartar. The principal negative aspect is surely the concentration of food which, weight for weight, is far more caloric than wet food and risks to cause feline obesity.
An advice: if your cat eats dry food, don’t forget to provide them a bowl of water.
The wet food, on the contrary, is rich of water and is more appetizing for the cat, even though it has a lower caloric load than the dry one. Cats tend to drink very little, so inserting water in their meals may be a great help for their system. The wet food tends to be more tolerated from old cats that have intestinal problems or from the smaller ones, especially if they’re in the weaning phase. A negative aspect of this kind of nutrition is that the price is a little higher than dry food’s, and the smell is stronger and may cause bad smells in your home.
The choice, then, between dry and wet food belongs to your cat and… to its tastes.
