Choose the feeding regime

Is it better the dry or the wet food?

For our four-legged friend it is very important the nutrition issue, it is known that the cat’s immune system starts from its stomach and that taking care of its diet means taking care of a fundamental aspect of its life.
The question we usually ask ourselves is: better dry of wet food?
Let’s try to know them better to evaluate the different aspects of each.
The dry food is more commonly known as “croquette”: It’s a mix of ingredients like meat, fish, and vegetables that are blended and deprived of water. This way croquettes conserve for a longer period and don’t have a strong smell, they also represent the ideal food not to cause dental plaque and tartar. The principal negative aspect is surely the concentration of food which, weight for weight, is far more caloric than wet food and risks to cause feline obesity.
An advice: if your cat eats dry food, don’t forget to provide them a bowl of water.
The wet food, on the contrary, is rich of water and is more appetizing for the cat, even though it has a lower caloric load than the dry one. Cats tend to drink very little, so inserting water in their meals may be a great help for their system. The wet food tends to be more tolerated from old cats that have intestinal problems or from the smaller ones, especially if they’re in the weaning phase. A negative aspect of this kind of nutrition is that the price is a little higher than dry food’s, and the smell is stronger and may cause bad smells in your home.
The choice, then, between dry and wet food belongs to your cat and… to its tastes.

The game that cannot miss

Which scratching post should I choose for my cat?

The scratching post is a game for cats that cannot miss in a home. For those who don’t know it, it’s a structure relatively high equipped with platforms and sleeping spots for your cat to play with, climb and, if need be, rest. The columns and the kennels composing the scratching post are made of wood or resistant cardboard and covered in rope: this way our friend will have the chance to scratch their nails… without destroying furniture!
In the animal shops you will find different typologies of scratching posts that are usually ranked by their dimension. If your four-legged friend is a little cat, it won’t need a high scratching post, instead, a little one will do. The more the cat grows the stronger the structure will have to be, so a medium size scratching post may be the better choice. Pay attention: It’s not necessary for it to be a multi-floor scratching post, but surely it needs to be able to withstand the cat’s weight even when it decides to jump on it.
At last there are the tree scratching posts, called such because they simulate the presence of a tree on which the cat can climb. Useless to say that to keep at home such a structure it’s necessary to own a wide space which will surely make your kitten happy!

When our cats fall sick

How to administer medicine to cats

Sometimes it happens that our animals fall sick and curing them is not always so easy, particularly talking about cats. It’s known that every cat has a different character: it might be the kitty inclined to a relation with humans whom you can play with or the independent one, easily frightened and hard to touch.
What to do when we need to administer a medicine to our cat? First you need to remember that only the veterinary can prescribe medicines for the animals, and if he knows your four-legged friend well, he’ll know the best method of administration as well.
In case your cat needs to take a pill, we advise you to pulverize it, mixing it in its food. Make sure the cat eats all of it, cats are usually smart! In alternative you may try to hold it gently with a towel and make it swallow the medicine, it won’t be pleasing but you’ll have the certainty that it has taken the medicine. If the cat is hit by a more serious sickness, injections will be necessary, be wary that only the veterinary is allowed to administrate them, it is a particular procedure which needs a professional.

The spring comes and our cats shed

How to survive hair loss

It’s spring and, it is known that along the mild weather comes also the hair shedding of our cats. Come on! It’s a common torture to all cats’ owners! The change of hair happens twice a year, in spring and in autumn. Whilst in autumn our kitty switches from the light and fresh fur to the warmer and soft one for the winter, during spring it’s the other way around. The worst moment happens during the spring hair loss, because the cat switches from a quite dense fur to a lighter one. But what are the ways to survive these two recurrent dates? First you need to be patient and, why not, joke about it: Surely, it’s easy to recognize among cat owners!
It might be of help to thoroughly brush the kitty, in order to remove at once a portion of the exceeding hair, you’ll surely find less hair around your home in the next days. Get your cat used to get brushed periodically, it may also become a way to cuddle him.
We advise to pay attention that your cat doesn’t eat too much hair, causing digestive problems. Maybe add a few drops of oil in the food, it’ll help with the hairball issue. In these phases, change to a nutrition rich of omega3 and omega6, and maybe add some specific supplement easy to find in animals’ shops.
